The Rite of Passage is a quest in Seeker, Slayer, Survivor. See also Pool of Memories.

Synopsis[ | ]

Items in italics are quoted directly from the game.

I've been thrust into the Crucible - some kind of arena competition pitting me against spirits and kith alike. I need to learn about the Rite of Passage I've found myself taking part in.

Walkthrough[ | ]

Intro[ | ]

You'll either face the first challenge or talk with Humaire.

Speak with Humaire[ | ]

You have to talk with Humaire. You'll find her on the west side of the map. After small talk you'll tasked with few challenges. It is possible that this will happen after the first challenge.

Challenge 1 - Agony of the Elements[ | ]

There are few enemies in this challenge.:

  • Obelisk of Air
  • Obelisk of Earth
  • Obelisk of Fire
  • Obelisk of Water
  • Tyrant of Decay

Focus obelisks first starting with Obelisk of Air. Those are weak to fire damage. After taking down the obelisks, kill the boss once its destructive aura is down.

Challenge 2 - Trial of the Nāga[ | ]

That's a fight against several enemies:

You'll want to focus totems first. Nagas use them to summon additional enemies - drakes and bog oozes. Then Poison Nāga Shaman, Flame Nāga Archer, Poison Nāga Skirmisher followed by Flame Nāga Sorcerer and then the rest. You'll want to kill excessive adds through the fight if your team can't take some additional damage.

Challenge 3 - Memories of a Mad Man[ | ]

To unlock the third challenge, you have to offer an artifact - Bloodied Ceremonial Obsidian Knife - at Pool of Memories. Then you can start Memories of a Mad Man.

You'll fight several enemies again:

  • Maerwald
  • 2 Nightmare Shade
  • At least 1 Soul Mirror, whose reflect your current party

You'll want to focus Maerwald first. He's a caster and will inflict a lot of damage but also he's also fragile so will go down fast. If you have a tough party members reflected by Soul Mirrors, then leave them as last to kill (until their damage output is enormous). After Maerwald is dead, focus any remaining casters and then go for other party members and Nightmare Shades.

Challenge 4 - The Bloodletting[ | ]

Your enemy is Pipiltin's party:

Pipiltin does little to nothing so any melee character can handle him through the fight. Remaining members of your party should take out Mercenary Rogue and Mercenary Monk. There's high chance that Mercenary Barbarian will die from your cleave. If not, take him out next. Finish the fight with Mercenary Fighter and Pipiltin.

After completing the fight, you are given the choice of how to deal with the lingering soul energy:

  • Return it to the Crucible and the wildlife of Kazuwari: Gain the Galawain's Gift talent (+2 Accuracy against Beasts).
  • Channel it into Muātu, empowering him: Improve the active ability of Muātu's Head (cut content).
  • Absorb it for yourself: Gain a single Culmination Stone.
  • Send it back to the Wheel: No immediate gain, but might contribute to the "good" ending.
    • The Watcher attempt to return the souls to the Wheel, but is unable to do so. It seems something blocks the way to the Beyond.

0 The Rite of Passage
10000 Humaire requested that I take part in the Crucible so that I can discover what's behind the unquiet souls stirring across Kazuwari.

Before I can take part in the full range of challenges the arena has to offer, I'm required to fight my way through the traditional Rite of Passage.

Alternate descriptions
40002 I've been thrust into the Crucible - some kind of arena competition pitting me against spirits and kith alike.

I need to learn about the Rite of Passage I've found myself taking part in.

2 Begin the First Challenge by communing with the Pool of Memories.
10002 Humaire seems concerned that the locals of Kazuwari will take offense to my presence if I don't participate in their sport.

She says I can begin my first foray into the Crucible by using the Pool of Memories on the west side of the temple beneath the arena.

3 Seek the Second Challenge.
10003 Humaire worries that the souls of Kazuwari are ill-at-ease and hopes that, as a Watcher, I can interpret their needs. To do so, I will need to draw the attentions of the Faces of the Hunt by facing the Crucible's trials.

I've survived one battle against the elements, but it appears I'm not done proving myself.

When I'm ready for the next challenge, I should commune with the Pool of Memories.

4 Slay a memory in the Third Challenge.
10004 Twice I've found victory in the Crucible, but the Rite of Passage is not over yet.

The next trial is drawn from the memories of the challenger. I'll find out more once I commune with the Pool of Memories.

20000 Humaire loaned me a small, obsidian knife so that I can make an offering of blood to the arena. This will give the Crucible what it needs to fashion a challenge for me.
5 Survive the Bloodletting, the final challenge of the Rite of Passage.
10005 With the phantasm of Maerwald defeated, I have but one more trial remaining before I've completed the Rite of Passage.

When I'm ready, the Pool of Memories will initiate one final proving - a duel against a rival group striving to complete their own Rite of Passage.

8 Agree to undergo the Rite of Passage.
10008 Humaire seems concerned that the locals of Kazuwari will take offense to my presence if I don't participate in their sport. She says I must compete in the Rite of Passage before I will be trusted.

If I am to learn more about the island, I may need to agree to undertake the Rite of Passage by speaking with Humaire near the Pool of Memories on the west side of the temple beneath the arena.

9 Return to the Pool of Memories.
10009 I've completed the Rite of Passage and the arena has dubbed me a contender of the Crucible.

I'm told that more trials will be opened to me. I should return to the Pool of Memories to see what awaits in its waters.

10 Speak with Humaire.
10010 I survived a battle against the elements. I should learn more about this place, and its custodian Humaire is likely the person with answers.
