Ranga Ruānu is a character in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire.

Background[ | ]

Items in italics are quoted directly from the game.

An aumaua huddles in close conversation with the warriors next to him. He whispers in a low, stern voice.

No sooner do you catch his eye than he grins wide enough to stretch every muscle in his face.

The head of Tikawara, Ruanu is plagued by the suffering his people experienced at the hands of slavers, raiders, and Rauatai. He is determined to succeed in the new location by leveraging the Vailian Trading Company's proximity for protection. This sets him apart from many ranga in Huana territories who are averse to foreigners.

Quests[ | ]

Companion reactivity[ | ]

After asking him "How is Poko Kohara causing storms?", the ranga explains that it is of Ngati's doing, in her defense of the adra.

Companion Dialogue
Pallegina At the implication of divine providence, Pallegina's right eye twitches in annoyance, the membrane flicking out and back.

Fighting against it, she forces a weak smile and nods politely.

To which the Ranga responds:
Cocking his head to the side, Ruānu mirrors the gesture with a full smile. He seem to be puzzling out Pallegina's reaction.

After asking him if there is danger beyond the storms, he briefly talks about "another people" living alongside his ancestors, and that the only thing there now is death.

Companion Dialogue
Aloth "That does tend to follow the Engwithans."

After he says: "Our village here is young still, but we will grow when the Vailians come."

Companion Dialogue
Tekēhu "Ekera, like an ingrown toenail."

To which the Ranga responds:
"For what does Ngati's chosen protest? Give Tikawara a chance to prove itself!"

After saying "You don't seem to mind the Vailian influence here." (only if you didn't destroy the adra pillar), he responds with:

"Some tribes push the foreigners away, but it is good to have powerful friends." A frown briefly clouds his expression.
Companion Dialogue
Aloth "Powerful friends have a way of extracting costly favors, don't they, [Player Name]?" He gives you a sidelong glance.
Pallegina (Pro-Valian Republics, Minor)
"The Company can be a good friend to helpful partners, even out here."

She nods warmly toward Ruānu.

Edér "We got plenty of those. Ours are holding our lives ransom and playing us against their enemies."

After asking if he's always this friendly, or after the above if you question Tikawara's ability to support more people (the latter only after starting Plucked Fruit).

Companion Dialogue
Edér "You sure you wanna question that? We never get nice ones like this."

Upon giving him Beza's Pages, during The Storms of Poko Kohara, claiming that the Vailians would've used the souls of the tribe to power the machines in Poko Kohara, and after he puts it away in fear of the news spreading.

Companion Dialogue
Pallegina (Minor Negative Reputation Lost)
"Sciòderie! One woman's fevered notes do not represent the Company's plans!"

Her lip curls in annoyance and her feathers stand on end.

Aloth If he decided to take Thaos' place in Pillars of Eternity:
You're responsible for your tribe and you're just going to... pretend you didn't see this?!"

If he decided to dismantle the Leaden Key in Pillars of Eternity:
"You're going to trust your fate to the goodwill of animancers?!"

To which the ranga responds:
"And what do you know of the choices before me, Aedyran?" He gives Aloth a contemptuous glare before turning back to you.
