Wood elves (Sceltrfolc or Cythwod) are a sub-race of elves in Pillars of Eternity and Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire.

Origin and prevalence[ | ]

Sceltrfolc (SKEL-trr-folk, "sheltered people" in Hylspeak), or Cythwod (SEETHwod, "home wood" in Aedyran), commonly known as Wood elves, originated approximately 3,500 miles north of present day Aedyr, south of where the Thyrtan are believed to have lived long ago.[1] They migrated south over thousands of years, and today cover most of the western continent shared with the Aedyr Empire. In some pre-historical era, a large number of them migrated across the sea to Eir Glanfath.[2] Today wood elves are the dominant elven subrace in both Aedyr Empire and Eir Glanfath region.[3]

Appearance and culture[ | ]

Glanfathan Sceltrfolc are physiologically very similar to Aedyran Sceltrfolc --looking like bog-standard fantasy elves and they can't grow any facial hair-- but besides that they share neither culture nor language.[4][5] Their natural lifespan is typically 200-310 years.[2]

Aedyran Sceltrfolc culturally are largely indistinct from Aedyran humans. They've been living near and migrating with each other for thousands of years. So long that their related parent languages (Eld Aedyran and Hylspeak) have mostly disappeared from common use. Aedyran Sceltrfolc tend to loathe and outwardly disparage Glanfathan Sceltrfolc[4], though there is no real animosity between Sceltrfolc and Glamfellen, with who they have minimal contact.[6]

Glanfathan Sceltrfolc are mostly organized into semi-nomadic tribes, and tend toward suspicion and xenophobia. Like the orlans alongside whom they live, Glanfathan elves believe that they are the stewards and protectors of the ruins in Eir Glanfath, though they know they did not create them.[4] They have their own yet unnamed language.

From the Pillars of Eternity Guidebook: Volume One:

  • Eyes: Blue, green, gold, hazel, gray.

In-game description[ | ]

Wood elves (Sceltrfolc) trace their beginnings far north of present-day Aedyr and have migrated south throughout the forests of the continent, now covering it all the way south across the Equator. They are also believed to have migrated across the sea to Eir Glanfath. While physiologically identical to one another, wood elves from Aedyr are culturally different from those in Eir Glanfath and consider themselves wholly different groups.

Wood elves trace their beginnings far north of present-day Aedyr and have migrated south through the forests and jungles of the continent. Much of their history is connected with the meadow folk and they are often found in the same lands. Some historians believe that wood elves migrated to Eir Glanfath at some point in the past, though Aedyre and Glanfathan elves are wholly different, culturally. They are rarely found outside of Aedyr and the Eastern Reach.
