Hello Alianin,

I have a short question and I'm hoping I'm putting this in the right place but I'm not sure where else to put it, forgive me but I'm not an expert at wikis!

So to get to the point: the wiki has some problems with the attribute pages, skill pages, etc. Currently the pages openly display the uses in the game for each skill. What I mean by that is that each location in the game where a particular skill is used is currently displayed openly at the bottom of each page (e.g. the Might page). Why is this a problem? Well, this is useful information for sure, but I don't think it should be _openly_ displayed. It should be hidden behind a spoiler barrier, or some other method should be used to prevent it being so open. Several times now I have accidentally started reading this information. It's a spoiler! I would appreciate it if some method of hiding this information was used.

That's it. Thanks for reading. And good work, the wiki is brilliant already.

Yosharian, that's a good point! It looks like someone just created a {{Spoiler}} template that can be used to hide that information, so I'll get started with the attribute uses and hiding those. If there's any other instances where you feel it's warranted, feel free to add it yourself, or message me and I can handle it. Thanks again! --Alianin 02:56, 25 March 2015 (UTC)
I understand why people want to have a spoiler tag, but in my experience they don't work. It always end up as formatting\updating hell, with no one agreeing what constitute a spoiler. IMO its best to have a "spoilers be warned" notice on the mainpage --AnotherArk (talk) 20:25, 25 March 2015 (UTC)
AnotherArk, you raise a good point. What do you think about a site notice for the first few weeks of release about potential spoilers? --Alianin 01:51, 26 March 2015 (UTC)
If you guys feels it is necessary, then I much prefer this solution over adding\maintaining spoiler tags on most pages of the wiki. --AnotherArk (talk) 12:34, 26 March 2015 (UTC)

Welcome

Congrats on your appointment and welcome to our humble wiki. We can surely use your help and expertise to spurs up the place for the release (and on a personal note, I love to have someone else who is anal about organization as much as I do). Thanks for your contributions. --AnotherArk (talk) 20:23, 25 March 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for the welcome! I hope you don't mind the changes I've made so far. I'm putting in a few standardizations and organizing the information a bit. Please let me know if there's a particular area of focus you'd like me to assist with. --Alianin 01:51, 26 March 2015 (UTC)
Sure thing. If you wish you can try to improve the theme, fix some of the color issues with navboxes (I rage quit on it a while back). Also did you finish with template import? because i noticed that {{hatnote}} is missing its relevant css code, effecting how {{see}} looks in Character Creation, but I didn't want to "butt in" in the middle. --AnotherArk (talk) 12:34, 26 March 2015 (UTC)
Sorry about that! It should be fixed now. I have some ideas on the theme, I'm just trying to find the right image. I'll let you know when I have something. --Alianin 12:58, 26 March 2015 (UTC)

Hi there! We know each other from way back too. Alas, I no longer work at Curse now (looks like you're my replacement ;), but I'm still an admin on this wiki as well, and will be contributing more now that the game is out. :) VaultAusir (talk) 22:12, 29 March 2015 (UTC)

Good to see you again, Ausir! I'm glad to have your experience around. =) --Alianin 22:28, 29 March 2015 (UTC)

Making things easier

We have a lot of abilities\spells\etc each has a separate entry and commonly listed in a summary page (e.g Druid spell). It makes hard to update and track of changes.

Any thought on using DPL, Semantic extension or plain templates (example, to make life easier and the content more accurate.(only one place to update). --AnotherArk (talk) 14:49, 27 March 2015 (UTC)

With a game of this scope, I'm thinking probably Semantic MediaWiki (SMW). I've gone ahead and installed it. --Alianin 16:00, 27 March 2015 (UTC)
It should be planned carefully, to avoid having to redo things when the first expansion arrives etc.--AnotherArk (talk) 22:02, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
I'm currently working on a test infobox for using SMW with the abilities first. Without knowing what might change with the expansion, it's hard to plan for it. Fortunately, if there are changes, we can always use a bot to make mass updates. Hopefully it won't come to that though. --Alianin 22:28, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
I created {{Ability infobox test}} that has some internal formatting changes and implements SMW. I put it in use on this page: Charm Beast If everything looks good, I'd like to go ahead and move it over to the main template and start updating pages. I can then start updating the spell list pages to pull the information directly from the spells so the information is synched. --Alianin 03:09, 30 March 2015 (UTC)
Looks great to me! Iamacyborg (talk) 14:06, 30 March 2015 (UTC)
It looks fine and straightforward, with minimal updating required. The issues I mentioned would be with single entries (e.g. Might) that would have different values for PoE vanilla, PoE first expansion etc --AnotherArk (talk) 21:55, 30 March 2015 (UTC)
Ok, thanks! I'll go ahead and start making the changes. --Alianin 22:14, 30 March 2015 (UTC)
To be fair, the Path of Exile templates are pretty complicated to maintain. Iamacyborg (talk) 00:29, 30 March 2015 (UTC)
To be honest, I have been rooting for SMW, the main reason I added Path of Exile example was for illustration purpose, it just looked good and I am not beneath such tactics ;).--AnotherArk (talk) 21:51, 30 March 2015 (UTC)
Our templates are pretty damned slick! Iamacyborg (talk) 22:48, 30 March 2015 (UTC)

Bot account

Hi, can you mark User:ArksBot as bot account, I need to make some updates to links etc, without spamming recent changes. There are to many changes happening, that its already hard to track of things.--AnotherArk (talk) 21:32, 30 March 2015 (UTC)

You should be all set now! If you could, just make a note on your bot's user page that it's your bot. Thanks! --Alianin 22:14, 30 March 2015 (UTC)
