Shipwreck is a scripted interaction in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire.

Background[ | ]

Items in italics are quoted directly from the game.

Waves batter a splintered hull that doggedly refuses to sink. Whoever abandoned this may have left something behind.

Shipwrecks are commonplace in parts of the Deadfire, and can be scavenged for what's left of their cargo.

Locations[ | ]

The following table lists all shipwrecks that use the standard "Shipwreck" interaction. Note that the loot column covers predetermined loot, though receiving this loot is still subject to the initial search roll (see the first table under Interactions below).

Interaction[ | ]

The dialogue shown upon initially coming across the wreck is randomized. This does not affect the actual interaction.

  • A shipwreck huddles in the crashing surf, its splintered beams rising like ribs from the water. The wreck appears abandoned.
  • You find an abandoned dhow half-buried in the sand. Wind whistles through gaping holes in its hull, making the sun bleached wood creak and moan. Unopened cargo crates lie scattered around the wreckage.
  • You come upon an abandoned sloop run aground on the beach. The nearby coral and volcanic rocks may have smashed its hull to kindling, but there might still be something salvageable in the hold.
  • A grand old galleon sits just off the shore, listing so hard to the side its top deck stands nearly vertical. Its main mast has been snapped clean in half, as if by the hand of an angry beast.
  • You stumble upon an ancient shipwreck. Its sails hangs from the main mast like cobwebs, shredded by cannon fire and vicious winds. The ship's hull is cracked and bow, but there may still be something inside worth salvaging.
  • A junk bobs just off shore. Its hull is scored with deep gashes above the water line, and parts of the stern are burned to cinders. There may still be something worth salvaging in the hold.

Scavenged loot[ | ]

Generic shipwrecks can be searched and scavenged for supplies and valuables, given a multitude of random outcomes. You may search the wreck 2-6 times (this value is randomized for each shipwreck). Doing so takes between 2-4 hours regardless of the outcome. Outcomes can occur more than once. After the ship has been completely searched, it is be removed from the world map.

Chance Result Dialogue Notes
19% Nothing ...and find nothing of value. -
50% Random loot See the "Random loot" table below
10% Colors ...and find a tattered old flag. The flag given depends on the ship being searched - see the above table of locations.
10% Coins ...and find a chest full of coins. The amount and type of currency given depends on the ship being searched - see the above table of locations.
10% Cannons ...and find a cannon in surprisingly good condition. The cannon given is random given a roll from 0-20, see the table below.
Possible loot
Roll (inclusive) Chance Item
0-6 33.3% Dyrwoodan Hog Nose
7-13 33.3% Iron Thunderer
14-20 33.3% Imperial Long Gun
1% Dragon Pendant ...and find a strange pendant glowing with a soft, internal light. Only if you don't already have the pendant, and can only occur once per game. Does not occur on the shipwreck on Maje Island.
You pick up the pendant and notice it's curiously warm to the touch, as if someone had just been wearing it.

Finding the pendant automatically forfeits the remaining searches. You may also choose not to take the pendant, which means you have a chance to find it in another shipwreck. You can also find the pendant by searching Abandoned Ships, Abandoned Villages, Burial Sites, and Old Battlegrounds.

- Lord Darryn's Voulge ...and find an usual object tucked away in a far corner of the hold.

After spending a few minutes digging it free from the wreckage, you discover it's actually a pollaxe of especially fine make that glitters with a strange, internal light.

This outcome is unique to the shipwreck southwest of The Black Isles. This does not occur randomly, always initially, and does not count as a "search" of the vessel like other outcomes.

Random loot[ | ]

1 of the following 4 loot lists are selected at random (25% chance each). After that, a roll is made from 0 to 20 inclusive (that is, 21 possible numbers - the added 1 is likely a design/programming oversight) to determine the exact loot given:
