Rynhaedr is a character in Beast of Winter.
Background[edit | edit source]
A native of the White that Wends, Rynhaedr was a naturally curious and inquisitive child brought up in the faith of her ancestors. Routinely violating the rules set down by the elders and suffering canings for it, she prowled the desolate, snowy wilds on her own, without a companion. Though all suspected she would fall to Rymrgand or his Beast, she prevailed and eventually joined the ranks of the gandhur. Asked specifically to join the temple guards at the Temple of Decline, Rynhaedr accepted the duty, though her heart yearned for the frigid homeland.
Still, she did her duty and became Rymrgand's champion. Her life on Eora came to an end when Neriscyrlas, a powerful dragon seeking to dominate the Deadfire Archipelago, attacked the temple to gain access to the White Void through the Vydmath, so that she could retrieve any of the immensely powerful relics disposed of within the Maw. Blasting through the defenses of the temple, she managed to make it all the way to the Temple and the breach. Rynhaedr sacrificed herself, opening a conduit through her body so that the Void could consume the dragon and protect Rymrgand's domain.
That was over four hundred years ago, when Aedyr was still young. Since then, she has been battling Neriscyrlas across the White Void, trying to complete her duty to Rymrgand - and failing, repeatedly.
