Description

Items in italics are quoted directly from the game.

These giant mushrooms stand nearly as tall as adult aumaua, and are topped by a broad and colorful cap. Their enormous weight is only held upright by the dozens of roots surrounding their base.

Dank spores are unique, compared to other forms of fungi, in their appetite for the souls of living creatures. They often grow and move in groups along the forest floor, searching for weakened or exhausted travelers who are unable to fight back. Once they find a host, they bind to it and supply it with the basic nutrients required to keep it alive while they absorb its essence. Dank spores are extremely hostile once they find a host, and will attack anything that gets close to their meal with their poisonous, barbed roots.

Dank spores feed on the most corrupt and splintered energy of a soul first, continuing until the host is nothing but a soulless husk. This makes dank spore flesh useful to experienced apothecaries as a cleansing agent in soul purification medicines and techniques. Improperly applied, however, this treatment can lead to amnesia and, in extreme cases, soul fracturing.

This towering mushroom pulses and writhes with life. Each sinuous movement shakes loose new clouds of small, incandescent blue spores. The air is thick with them. The mushroom's goal in life is simple: Procreation. By enslaving the vithrack and through them the humans above, the fungus will ensure a new generation of children sprouts forth, and from them their children, and...

Encounters

  • Encountered at the end of Whispers in the Dark, approaching the spore will begin a conversation. Inhaling the spores makes it possible to free the Vithrack in the room from the Spore's control so long as the Watcher has 15 Resolve or 18 Constitution, choosing to push the spore's voice out of their thoughts and the sever the connection.Doing so will cause concussion if the Watcher has less than 15 constitution. Either way, there's no chance of a peaceful discussion with an evil fungus.
  • Several Radiant Sporelings will appear as the battle starts. The Radiant Spore itself is a nastier Dank Spore with an increased attack range, but the four tentacles are notable - their rock throwing targets Fortitude and can do a lot of damage to party backliners - it's best to send a tougher party member or summon closer to them in the hope of drawing their fire. The tentacles are immune to every status except prone. Killing the main body of the spore will also kill the tentacles.
