Biography[edit | edit source]
A well-maintained statue of a middle-aged man presides over the room, looking down unblinking over the bustle of harried academics pestered by the hopeful desperate. A strong warmth emanates from it that you could sense from across the room. There is a human soul stored beneath the stonework. You feel its attention turn towards you. This is Ethelmoer, a scientist who dedicated his life to the pursuit of knowledge in the discipline of animancy, and became the head warden of the Brackenbury Sanitarium.
Ethelmoer was one of the most talented animancers a century ago, responsible for running the sanitarium since its inception. When age began to creep up on him, he realized that death would be an unfitting end for a life spent in pursuit of discovery. For the soul to move on, all of its experience wiped out, it was improper and selfish. As such, he endeavored to transfer his soul to a statue carved in his likeness. The simple procedure allowed his soul to remain in Eora, amassing knowledge and running the sanitarium for 94 year straight.
His one point of contention is the fact that he can't take an active role in scholarly efforts, as while sometimes animancers humor him and ask for a consult, most are jealous and afraid of others stealing credit for their work. As such, Ethelmoer focuses on administrative duties.
