Eothas (AY-uh-thahss) is the god of renewal and light. He is often represented as a young man holding a candle and wearing a crown of shining silver or as his messengers, the Dawnstars.

History[ | ]

Influence over the sun and stars contributes to his overall air of grandeur and importance, putting Eothas at odds with the rest of the pantheon. By divine command, his churches are strictly regulated in their laws of the faith. A candle, lantern, or torch must burn in the center of every room, banishing "shadows of unfaithful" to vacant doorways (Berath’s realm). Doves are traditionally housed in towering rookeries, and crows hunted for miles around.

While worship of Eothas is still popular in the Aedyr Empire and Readceras, the faith is outlawed in most cities of the Free Palatinate of Dyrwood and its followers are often victims of prejudice due to events of the Saint's War that culminated at Godhammer Citadel. Prior to the Battle of Godhammer and the destruction of St. Waidwen, Eothas communicated regularly with his faithful, but he has not done so for the past fifteen years.[1][2]

The Dawnstars are a manifestation of Eothas, which most people agree have not been seen since they visited Waidwen. According to stories, the Dawnstars appear as the ethereal forms of a man and two women who represent three of the brightest stars in the sky. They act as heralds of things to come, or as heralds of things Eothas wants to come, and as advisers to mortals. The god was believed to have been destroyed at the end of the Saint's War, but many of his priests and followers continued to worship him. His return to Eora at Caed Nua is not yet known to most mortals.[3]

Although most kith dismissed rumors of a giant adra statue crossing the waters of the Deadfire Archipelago, the Watcher's investigation and reports forced them to confront this reality and the plans that Eothas had for all of Eora, focused on the lost city of Ukaizo, where the greatest of Engwithan inventions lay. Eothas' plan to destroy it was a radical step that would alter the very fabric of Eoran reality.

Roles[ | ]

Eothas is the god of light, redemption, hope, and rebirth. Priests of Eothas are honest and kind in their dealings, condemning all expressions of cruelty and falsehood.[3]

Gaun is an aspect of Eothas that emphasizes the natural ending of mortal life. Commonly represented as a farmer carrying a lantern and sickle, Gaun is a figure of cyclical death as opposed to Rymrgand’s entropic one or Berath’s cold inevitability. The sickle he carries, reaps what is sowed in life, and the lantern guides the deceased through death and rebirth. It is believed that Gaun, instead of Berath’s avatars, visits those who embrace death with acceptance.[3]

Factions[ | ]

In the wake of the Saint's War, several secret organizations formed in the Dyrwood, such as the Night Market. In addition to ministering to the needs of Eothasians who cannot worship publicly, the Night Market attempts to track and fight against any forces that would threaten Dyrwood, in hope that they can mend the relationship between Dyrwoodans and Eothas. However, some members of the Night Market wish to transform the purpose of the group into something quite different, an organization seeking revenge for the events of Halgot Citadel.[4]
