Draining Whip is an ability in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire.

Description[edit | edit source]

Items in italics are quoted directly from the game.
Causes the cipher's weapons to generate a field of parasitic energy that lashes out at the target, increasing Damage inflicted and generating Focus for the cipher.

(Beguiler) - Soul Whip provides less bonus damage and generates less Focus if the cipher's target is not vulnerable to Sneak Attack.

(Draining Whip) - Enhances the draining power of the cipher's Soul Whip, regenerating Focus more quickly.

Effects[edit | edit source]

  • Self: +10% Damage, 0.5 Focus generated per point of weapon damage dealt to enemies (restored to +20% Damage and 0.75 Focus if attacking Sneak Attack vulnerable target).

Notes[edit | edit source]

  • A target is vulnerable to a Sneak Attack if they are currently Flanked, or are suffering from a Mind or Body Affliction.
  • The Focus bonus is a little confusing. The base damage-to-focus ratio for a Beguiler is 0.25 (instead of the usual 0.5). Draining Whip applies a +100% modifier (x1.0) to this ratio all the time, and then a further +100% when the target is vulnerable to a Sneak Attack. Both of these modifiers are stacked additively, not multiplicatively (the multipliers are added together before being applied to the base ratio), resulting in 0.25 + (0.25 * (1 + 1)) = 0.75.

Bugs[edit | edit source]

  • The full bonus should apply if the target has a Mind Affliction, however it currently applies if the target has a Mind Inspiration instead (as of patch 5.0.0.0040 this has not been fixed).
