Cladhalíath is a unique spear in Pillars of Eternity. Unlike other unique items, its enchantments can be affected by player by specific choices during its crafting process.

Description

Items in italics are quoted directly from the game.

This bronze spear appears to have been crafted with great care. Despite the weapon's age, the point is remarkably sharp.

Adra details line the grip, and runes are carved into the shaft. You feel the adra core running through the weapon.

Acquisition

  • Found in the sarcophagus in the upper level of Lle a Rhemen, Stormwall Gorge. May be enchanted with unique properties depending on how you answer the stone heads in Lle a Rhemen.

Enchantments

What enhancements the spear has depends on how you answered the questions of both stone heads in Lle a Rhemen:

Answering the Ambition head adds one of the following four enchantments:

I aim to become a mightier version of who I am today. Exceptional: +8 Accuracy, +30% Damage
I would inspire those around me and lend my strength to our common purpose. Marking: +10 Accuracy granted to an ally attacking the same target
I wish to subdue my foes with my power. Stunning: Attacks can Stun on Crits

Answering the Legacy head additionally grants one of the following four enchantments to the spear:

Answer Enchantment
I bring people together. I'm at my best when working alongside my allies. Coordinating: +4 Accuracy when attacking same target as an ally, +25% Damage when attacking same target as an ally
I am consistent and reliable. I can work through any obstacle with patience and dedication. Reliable: +20% of Grazes converted to Hits

Enchanting ritual

Upon answering a question, one of four Engwithan symbols will light up in the associated room. After answering both questions, return to the room with the spider tunnel that leads to Nridek and a hollow cylinder in the middle of the room.

The enchanting process requires that you obtain the base weapon itself, as well as the Soul Vessel. Nridek the Vithrack possesses the vessel, and the Watcher has the option to let the Vithrack go, using the Soul Vessel to revive his colony, or kill him, taking the Soul Vessel for themselves. Note that if Nridek is spared, the ritual to enchant Cladhalíath cannot be completed.

Assuming you have already defeated Nridek and have acquired both items, you may start the soul transferring process.

  • Look on the floor on either side of the stairs in that room to find the two sets of tiles with symbols on them. Recall which symbol lit up when you were asked by the Ambition and Legacy heads earlier and find them on the tiles.
  • To start the ritual, have one party member stand over the matching Engwithan symbols. If they are over the correct symbol, it will light up. Note that the party member does not need to remain on the symbol.
  • When both tiles are lit, have your Watcher walk up the stairs to the circular dias beneath the stone head in the same room. The soul vessel will be infused with part of your soul, and you obtain the Infused Soul Vessel.
  • Once that's done, interact with the glowing urn to enchant Cladhalíath.

Trivia

  • The gaulish "Cladhalíath" translates to "stabber". In Scottish gaelic, it translates to "excavation".
  • The current version of the game has renamed Cladhalíath to Cladhaliath (dropping the í). The reason for this is unknown.

Notes

  • While Marking from different characters cannot be stacked it will stack if one character is dual wielding two marking weapons - for example Cladhaliath + Shame or Glory. Marking stacks with all other accuracy buffs, including Paladins' Coordinated Attacks which can be used to support the nearest party member with +20 accuracy (+30 if dual wielding two marking weapons).
  • The value Copper pands (cp) and initial enchantment points Anvils of this weapon will depend on the enchantments that are selected. The listed values above are for the most commonly occuring combination of 2 + 2 Anvils. Enchanting Cladhalíath with Exceptional will change this value to 4 + 2 (resulting in a base value of Copper pands (cp)3,025), and enchanting it with Stunning will change the value to 3 + 2 (resulting in a base value of Copper pands (cp)2,525).
